In search of the best free online invoicing software, we tried out several tools. Here are the results we found:
- Simple Invoices: Hard to set up, and some features such as pdf export and email didn’t work. Otherwise looks fine and is easy to use.
- Wave: Looks great, very powerful, lots of features, a bit complicated at first glance but becomes easy to use after you quickly figure it out. Has invoicing, expenses, & accounting features. Can convert estimates into invoices. No online payments.
-  Zoho Invoice: Looks great, powerful and very easy to use. Has expenses feature. Clients can also pay invoices online using several methods. Can convert estimates into invoices. Has recurring invoicing feature. (Free plan is limited to 5 “active” customers.)

- Quickfile: Doesn’t look good. Available only for UK.
- Brightbook: Didn’t even use it because website’s background was too bright and annoying it hurt my eyes.
- Â Ronin: limited to 2 clients.
- Paymo: limited to 1 invoice per month.
- Invoice Machine: limited to 3 invoices per month.
- Mr Biller: Looks ok, bit dated or not too pro. Does the job, but emails are sent from “Mr Biller” which doesn’t sound pro. Has some bugs in logo uploading. No limitations.
- Invoiceable: Looks great, simple and straight to the point. Has no limitations. Only con is that it doesn’t have any estimates or quotes feature.

- Bonsai: Its pros are that it has a contract generator that’s linked to invoicing, and it’s free but charges 1$ per online payment made on invoices. Its cons are that it doesn’t support partial invoice payments, and its invoicing system is very minimal simplistic.
- Due: No price quotes, no recurring invoices.
- Invoice Ninja: Very simple, easy to use, to the point, and does exactly what you need. It includes quotes, recurring invoices, and online payment. Integrates with 45+ payment gateways. Also has task time tracking.
Verdict: The best free online invoicing software would be a tie between Zoho Invoice and Invoice Ninja. 2nd runners up would be Wave, and Nut Cache. 3rd runner up would be Invoiceable (use it if your business doesn’t need to send quotes, it’s the simplest).
